Week 5

What do we mean by Workflow in music?

Today we were assigned a task to analyse what workflow means in music, we spoke about what workflow means in music today in class. After talking about what it means using KMRU as an example. we divided into groups to talk about each of them separately. My group talked about Nazar, and created a presentation from which I will highlight the key points.

Inspirational Phases

It’s easy to denote that Nazar’s process usually starts with an ideation stage. He immerses himself in cultural allusions, historial accounts, and personal anecdotes, drawing from his angolan heritage and experiences. Nazar may gather field recordings, snippets of Traditional music, or noises from his surroundings that bring back feelings or memories associated with this culture.

Experimentation and Sound design

Nazar uses a lot of sound design and experimenting in production. He modifies field recordings and samples, frequently processing and distorting sounds using non-traditional techniques. To produce original textures and moods, he might use methods like layering distortion, and granular synthesis. His willingness to push limits and defy accepted aural conventions is what characterises this era, which produces his distinctive experimental sound.

Arrangement and Composition

After assembling a selection of carefully chosen sounds textures, Nazar proceeds to the stage of arragnement and composition. Here, he arranges the parts into melodic melodies that flow well together. In order to build tension and a sense of urgency, Nazar frequently combines more melodic or rythic parts with raw distorted sounds in his compositions. He creates a world for the listener by manipulating the sounds elements to to tell a tale or evoke a feeling.

Mixing and Finalisation:

These steps make up the last stage in Nazar’s workflow. He carefully adjusts and tinkers with the components to guarantee impact depth, and clarity in the mixture. To give the listener a sensation of movement and immersion within the music, Nazar may employ a variety of effects, modulation and spatialization tecchniques, this ensures the song reflects his artistic vision and attaining the appropiate audio aestethic.

All things considered, Nazar’s approach to music production is quite experimental and highly personal. In order to create a singular and engrossing aural experience, it entails utilising cultural influences, considerable sound manipulation, storytelling through sonic means and painstaking compositional creation. And although I personally do not care for this genre of music, after today’s lesson I can appreciate the personal creative process Nazar has undergone to build his path as an artist.
